ACADEMIC LEARNING CENTER (ALC)

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is offered in specific courses each semester. SI provides peer-facilitated study sessions and office hours, reviews challenging material, connects students, and addresses effective study strategies. Students may attend as many sessions and office hours as available through the course; there is no fee.

Tutoring Services

The ALC also provides students with Tutoring Services at KU. Students may request a tutor in disciplines that include Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Languages. Other courses may be offered based on student demand and the availability of tutors. Students may contact tutoring services about potentially adding a course if one is not currently being offered. This program provides small group, course specific tutoring and the groups meet twice a week for one-and-a-half hours each session during the fall and spring semesters.

Academic Consultations

The ALC offers academic consultations on skill development in the areas of time management, study skills, test taking strategies, and more. During these appointments you will work with an ALC staff member to develop success strategies specific to your own needs and goals. Contact the ALC to schedule a one-on-one appointment.

Workshops and Presentations

Upon request, workshops are offered on academic success topics. Workshops may be requested for classes and campus organization meetings. Presentations on ALC academic resources may be requested by faculty and staff. To request a workshop, please fill out our Workshop Request Form at least 2 weeks in advance of the anticipated event.

Academic Success Guides

The ALC offers a list of guides that aim to lead students to success. Topics include how to manage your time, develop effective study skills and strategies, become a successful test-taker, and more. Our guides are arranged in categories and most are available for download at the Academic Success Guides page.
